When a veteran applies for first time GI Bill benefits there is typically a 1-3 month waiting period before
they can expect their first payment. While it is a certain and inevitable fact that
the VA will pay those GI Bill benefits, landlords and bill collectors are often
unwilling or unable to wait. Therefore in response to this issue affecting thousands
of veterans annually, in early 2008 The Collegiate Veterans of Santa Fe College
created The Veterans Bridge Scholarship Fund. As a SF College endowment managed
fund, each $15,000 contribution is matched by the state, then interest awarded
each year perpetually. In the 2 years since the fund’s formation, nearly $200,000
has been raised by patriotic businesses and private donors. 7 scholarships will
be awarded to new students using first time GI Bill benefits this academic year.
Hot Rodding for Heroes is pleased to support this charity, and we hope you
are as well.
